The S2 is an all-rounder small-bore mouthpiece that trends towards lead playing in a jazz ensemble or big band. It combines a cup that is slightly shallower than the classic 6 ½AL for ease of playing in the upper register with a perfectly balanced .246″ (D Reamer) throat and relatively open backbore. This combination, along with an appropriate rim selection, allows it to be particularly appealing to trombonists moving from large-bore horns to small-bore playing, and will feel immediately familiar. Trombonists who are predominantly small-bore artists will also appreciate the freedom that the backbore allows. The design utilizes Harry’s classic Retro Blank to enhance projection and add color to the sound. Other tweaks to the shank engagement and throat shape balance out the design and overall blow.
The result is a mouthpiece capable of meeting the unique musical demands of both commercial section players and soloists.
